In November 2016, Johnson County began the process of updating its comprehensive plan for the unincorporated areas of the county.  Please check back here periodically to remain updated on the process, public input events, and progress updates. At its 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2018, (confirmed) formal meeting, the Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing and potential discussion on the draft comprehensive plan (links below) and potential changes including those recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission at their April 9th meeting (links below).  The public is welcome to attend this meeting, which will take place in the second-floor boardroom of the Johnson County Administration Building located at 913 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City. Routine business may precede the comprehensive plan agenda item. The meeting will be broadcast live on cable TV. You can also listen and watch online by going to http://johnsoncountyia.iqm2.com/citizens/default.aspx  -- select “Board of Supervisors” from the Meeting Group drop-down menu and then select the date. Then click on "media" on that date line.

Recent prior meeting: At a work session at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, the Board of Supervisors reviewed the Planning and Zoning Commission’s list of 24 changes to the draft, including the Future Land Use Map (FLUM). At an April 9th meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-0 recommending that the draft plan be approved subject to these 24 changes, including the map change.

Electronic copies of the current plan and Appendices, which are both labeled “For Public Hearing” and dated 1/29/2018, are also available online (see links below).

Paper copies of all these documents are available for viewing at the Administration Building at 913 S. Dubuque Street in Iowa City: Auditor (first floor), Board of Supervisors (second floor), and Planning, Development and Sustainability (second floor).

Additional background: The Planning and Zoning Commission held meetings on plan Feb. 12, Feb. 28, April 5 and April 9, 2018. Audio, summaries and minutes of the meetings are or will be available online at http://johnsoncountyia.iqm2.com/citizens/default.aspx, where users can select “Planning and Zoning Commission” from the Meeting Group drop-down menu and then select the date. Summaries from the most recent meetings are pending.
